1) Introduction

The Sondigo Callisto is a compact USB audio device that allows you to connect your PC to your home theatre system with a single optical digital connection. It truly is plug and play!

To enhance Callisto’s audio capabilities, the Callisto Control Panel is included. After running the installer from the included CD, the Control Panel allows Callisto to encode Dolby Digital and DTS audio formats- the standards for home entertainment. Read more about Callisto’s exciting software features below:

Dolby Digital Live is a real-time encoding technology that converts any audio signal into a Dolby Digital bitstream for transport and playback through a home theatre system. With it your PC can be hooked up to your DolbyTM Digital-equipped audio/video receiver through a single digital connection, ensuring the integrity of the audio signal.

DTS Connect turns your PC into an action-packed entertainment experience that surrounds you in high-quality audio. Your movies, music and games come alive in exciting, dynamic multi-channel DTSTM Digital Surround, the same sound format found in movie theatres.

DTS Neo:PC takes any two-channel audio source and expands it into 5.1 channel surround sound, making it an ideal way to take your stereo music and output it over DTS Connect. Neo:PC also provides optimized modes for stereo music and motion picture soundtracks.

2) Setup instructions

To set up Sondigo Callisto with your computer, follow the three simple steps below:

1. Install the Software

a) Plug Callisto into an available USB port on your computer. Note that a non-powered USB hub will probably not supply enough power, so you’ll want to connect Callisto directly to your computer or to a powered hub.

b) Insert the included software CD into your computer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the Callisto Control Panel. If the CD does not run automatically, open up Windows Explorer and browse to your CD drive (located under My Computer). Double click on the CD icon and run setup.exe from the CD.

c) After the installation is finished, the Callisto Control Panel will appear automatically. If it doesn’t, simply click on the icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen to launch it. To Enable Dolby Digital or DTS output, click the S/PDIF Output button from the Control Panel, and choose your format from the pull-down menu.

2. Connect your cables

To connect Callisto to your A/V Receiver, use the included optical digital cable and the Toslink-to-3.5mm converter. Ensure that your receiver is configured to receive audio from the correct input source.

Alternately, to connect analog headphones or stereo speakers to Callisto, plug them directly into Callisto’s 3.5mm output jack. Be careful though, there’s lots of volume on tap!

3. Enjoy 5.1 Audio

Sit back, pop a cold one, and enjoy your audio!

Double-click on the system tray icon on the bottom-right hand corner of your screen (see below). The Callisto Control Panel will appear.

5) Troubleshooting Guide

This section provides some solutions to problems that you might encounter while using your Callisto Home Theatre Adapter.

Q: I’ve connected Callisto to my A/V Receiver with an optical cable, but I can’t get any sound.

A: There are a few things to check if you have this problem. Follow the checklist below.

1) Verify that Callisto is plugged into one of your computer’s USB ports, and all of your cable connections are secure.

2) Ensure that you’re A/V Receiver’s input selector is set to the same input that you have connected Callisto to.

3) Open up the Callisto Control Panel and ensure that the S/PDIF Output button is enabled (it should look like this ). You can choose your desired output format in the pull-down menu below this button.

4) If none of the above solutions have fixed your problem, open up the Windows Control Panel (Start > Control Panel). Double-click the “Sounds and Audio Devices” icon. In the pop-up window, it should read “C-Media USB Sound Device” beside the speaker icon (as below).

If the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window doesn’t appear as above, click on the “Audio” tab and select “C-Media USB Sound Device” from the first pull-down menu. Then re-start your audio program.

Q: I’ve connected Callisto to speakers or headphones with an analog connection and I can’t get any sound.

A: First, check steps, 1, 2, and 4 in the answer to the question above. If you still can’t get sound, ensure that the S/PDIF Output button is DISABLED (it should look like this:

Q: I plugged my Callisto in, but I can’t access the Callisto Control Panel.

A: If you have installed the software that came with Callisto, you should have the Callisto icon in your system tray (see below).

If you don’t have this icon, press the Start button in the bottom left-hand corner, and open the Control Panel. In the list of icons you should see “Sondigo Callisto”. Double click on this icon to open the Callisto Control Panel.

The final thing to check is that you may have Callisto installed in the wrong USB port. To access the Control Panel, plug Callisto into the USB port that it was in during the software installation. Alternately, you can re-install the software so that it works on the current USB port as well.
