Ethernet installation problems

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can help me with an install problem? I can't get an Ethernet connection between my laptop and my new Sirocco.

I've tested the cable which came with it and it works fine when not connected to the Sirocco - the laptop's Ethernet port also seems to be working OK. But I can't get a connection to the Sirocco, either from the laptop or my network router (the LAN light doesn't light up). Is this a problem anyone else has had or is it (as I suspect) a hardware issue with the Sirocco?

Thanks much,
Tasha

Tried with US power adaptor....

back in US. Tried with US power adaptor and get no response. This thing is now officially a brick.... what do I do next?

Hi milleph, It's possible

Hi milleph,
It's possible that there is something wrong with the adapter that came with the Sirocco. Does your sister have any other 9V, 700mA+, center positive power supplies that she can test the unit with?

I do work for Sondigo, by the way.

Power supply came with device.....

so I'm still wondering... maybe someone from company can comment...

Hi milleph, It's possible

Hi milleph,
It's possible that the UK power supply could damage the device if it didn't come with the Sirocco. What are the voltage/current/polarity specs for it?

Similar problem

I am US based but purchased one for my sister who lives in the UK. We set the thing up in the US on her laptop (and using my US adaptor) and it worked fine. Back in the UK the device will not function. The only difference I see is the power adaptor - same laptop, same sirocco. Could the UK power adaptor have damaged the device? This would also explain the problems on this thread.........

More specifically, in configuration the device is not found.

Hi, The European and North

Hi,
The European and North American versions only have one difference: the power adapter. The actual Sirocco body itself is the same. In your case, I tested the unit (wired and wirelessly) before sending, so unless it was visibly damaged in transit, the problem should be elsewhere.

Please do let me know how the installation goes on your friend's PC.

Ethernet installation problems, vol. 2 - device replaced

I shipped the device back to Canada and got a replacement but it doesn't work either. The installation wizard still stops when trying to find available devices (Sirocco) from ethernet. The next thing I'll try is to install it to my friend's laptop and desktop. If that doesn't work, then I'm really puzzled...

Do you really have positive installation results with european version? :|

OK, that looks like the

OK, that looks like the original driver (from the CD). There are a few things to try, and if they don't work, I think I may be forced to conclude that the device is faulty:

- Open up your web browser and enter the address: 192.168.1.254. If the Sirocco has been reset and is functioning properly, this should bring up a web utility. From this utility, you should be able to update the firmware to a newer version (see www.sondigo.com/sirocco/updateguide)

- Install the latest Sirocco software (2.1) from www.sondigo.com/sirocco/updateguide, and see if the setup wizard in this package is able to find the device.

Let me know if one of these works,
Aaron

Which version of the driver are you using?

Yes, this is a new

Yes, this is a new installation. I resetted the Sirocco, but it didn't help...

lumiturpa, Is this a new

lumiturpa,
Is this a new installation, or has the Sirocco been working previously? Either way, try resetting the Sirocco (hold down the button for about 10 seconds while the device is powered), and see if you can connect after that.

PS Hopefully you have been spared from hearing the customs workers' poetry...

Hi Aaron, Thank you for

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for responding.

I have XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 2. Sirocco is also connected directly to the laptop's ethernet slot.

I hope this isn't a hardware issue because I live in Finland and the people in the customs are a bunch of Vogons from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! . . .

Hi lumiturpa, Could you

Hi lumiturpa,
Could you please confirm the following:
- your PC has XP Service Pack 2 installed
- the Sirocco is connected directly to the PC, with no routers, switches, etc in between

Thanks,
Aaron

Ethernet installation problems, vol. 2

I have a similar problem with the European version of Sirocco. The Sirocco software is succesfully installed but in the Device Configuration phase I get the message "No available devices were found".

I tried to disable my Windows (XP) firewall but it didn't help. The network cable is working and the LAN light is on in Sirocco.

Please, help me!

Security software?

Hi Tasha,
If you are running a software firewall on your laptop, please try disabling that and then re-connecting the Ethernet cable directly from the notebook to the Sirocco. It's possible that a firewall could be automatically blocking off access to a new device on the Ethernet port.

If that doesn't help, it's possible that there is a problem with the unit itself, so please contact us by email.

Thanks,
Aaron
