Help needed with Logitech Z-5500

Well I just received the card and installed it with the new drivers found above and everything seems flawless except for one little problem. When there's no media playing, my z-5500 control pod says "Detecting..." and whenever there's media playing, it goes to "DTS Digital". Also, whenever I close the media, there would be an annoying bump noise and the pod switch back to "Detecting...". I read somewhere that it's a problem that's common to cmedia chipsets and that usually enabling "Magic voice" in the karaoke menu fixes it. I tried and it didn't for me. Can anyone suggest something to help me out? Thank you.

Hi, I'm assuming that you're

Hi, I'm assuming that you're going through the optical output and using the DTS output mode, correct?

Could you try it with Dolby Digital mode selected as well, and see if you have the same problem?

Tx for the quick reply. I

Tx for the quick reply. I tried with Dolby digital as well and same thing happens. I guess what I really need is to have a constant digital stream, even when there's no media playing. Everywhere else I read says that enabling magic voice does the trick, but it doesn't for me.

Regarding the "bump" that

Regarding the "bump" that you hear when a stream ends- if you watch the spectrum analyzer in the Inferno Control Panel when this happens, is the bump visible?

hmm I'm not sure what you

hmm I'm not sure what you mean by "spectrum analyzer". I don't see anything about that in the sondigo control panel. I used the updated drivers found on this site instead of the one from cd. The good news is that I figured why magic voice didn't fix my problem. It was because I didn't have a mic attached to the soundcard...Anyways, now it's fine. Still, it's more like a workaround and not really a fix. The fact that the soundcard does not output a continuous digital stream even when no sound is playing is a problem that's common to all soundcards using the 87xx cmedia chipset.

I have the exact SAME setup

I have the exact SAME setup and my POD does display dts Digital even though when there's no sound playing in XP.

It wasn't an issue when I was using the original driver from the CD...However, this was a huge issue when I was using the Auzentech X-Plosion card...

Try uninstalling the driver and install again...good luck.

re-installation

Hi Eric,
Thanks for chiming in. Perhaps a re-installation will help?

I believe the Inferno does send a continuous digital stream in DTS/DDL modes (although you're right, it has been a problem with earlier C-Media chips). You shouldn't have to enable magic voice for that to take effect. Have you had another C-Media based soundcard installed on this PC previously?

PS The spectrum analyzer is the little display in the control panel whose bars move along with the music. Watching it during the bumps could tell us whether that sound is coming from the driver or your receiver.

hmm, well I had a driver for

Ah ok, well the bump is detected in the spectrum analyzer. Well I had a driver for usb surround headphone that uses a cmedia chipset. Perhaps that was the cause. I've now uninstalled it (I never use it anyways.) Also, it might be because I was using the drivers from this forum instead of the one from the cd?

Ah, sounds like the old

Ah, sounds like the old C-Media driver is likely the culprit. Do a full uninstall of it, and then install the Callisto driver again. The driver posted in the forum is the same as the one on the CD, so that shouldn't be the problem.

To update you guys on this.

To update you guys on this. It was in fact the old driver the culprit. In any case, I got it to work without needing to turn on magic voice now. However, you still need to have the Line-in or the mic port on in the driver's panel, otherwise it's still the same problem. In any case, this is not even an annoyance anymore. So Good Job!

Glad to hear it is working

Glad to hear it is working well now. It is strange that the Line-in or Mic need to be selected for it to work properly, though. I'll try and figure out why that might be (it seems abnormal).
