This is an alternate solution for audio dropouts that don’t seem to be resolved by increasing buffer size. Unfortunately, a prerequisite is a network drop near your sound system.
Install your Sirocco software on a wired pc that stores your music library and connect the Sirocco Bridge in wired mode. Use a wireless laptop to control your media selection from your listening location via RDP (remote desktop protocol). In the RDP properties under local resources, remote computer sound, select “leave at remote computer”.
This setup has been very reliable and provided pleasurable listening from my lossless format library.
Alternate setup if net drop available

Data encryption reduces performance
I noticed that a data encryption like WEP increased the number of audio drops. I now have have 0 drops by disabling the data encryption.
Buffalo Wgs45 + MediaMonkey
I have experienced drops with Itunes but not as much with MediaMonkey, maybe one drop per 10 songs. I have set the Buffalo router to only access wireless clients via mac addresses and the buffer to 2002 ms.
RE: Wired Version
As Aaron states, the software will detect the Sirocco Bridge connected to a switch on your LAN. The software needs to be on a wired PC for maximum throughput.
Yes – wirelessly remote control media player and control panel.
When the software is on a wireless box your media traffic is routed thru the wireless adapter reducing available bandwidth to the bridge.
Verify the Sirocco’s wireless is disabled via web interface before connecting RJ45 to your switch.
Good luck.
Hi Steve, The Sirocco should
Hi Steve,
The Sirocco should be discoverable by any PC on the same network, whether it or the PC is wireless or wired. A lot of people do find that they get better performance in wired mode (where network bandwidth is less of a concern). I wrote up a few simple steps for getting an optimal wired setup running, which you might find helpful. You can find it here: http://www.sondigo.com/sirocco/wired
Wired version
I have most of my mp3's on a Buffalo linkstation, and just setting up the Sirocco I tried buffer at 1500+ms and still are getting dropouts (Itunes writing ID tags to remote NAS). So I'm intrigued with running Sirocco in wired form (except when I want to drive some remote speakers). I have switch next to my HT for my media player.
SO can I throw the Sirocco on a Switch and find it from the PC running the software? But the software also needs to be on wired PC??? then use wireless PC and remote control the media player and control panel??? IS that about it? I wasn't sure how to get the device configured for wired (though sometimes I'll want to do wireless).
I'm also going to try to use something other than iTUNES on NAS MP3s - something that doesn't need to write updates (like play counts).
Thanks
Steve
