Hi, If you're running Vista
Hi,
If you're running Vista Premium, there should be some new Microsoft audio effects that you could use to upmix the audio to 5.1. The one I'm thinking of is called "Speaker Fill", I believe. So make sure your sound card is set to output 5.1, and enable Speaker Fill, and you should have 5.1 output.
Hope this helps,
Aaron
reple to my 5.1 speaker problem using vista premium
umm how would i go about finding the "speaker fill" option.
i did a search for it, and it reccomended to go to 'windows media centre centre setup'
first step:
"On the start screen, scroll to Tasks, click settings, and then click General."
im struggling to scroll to tasks. where is tasks!? lol. i can find task manager... but not tasks...
thanks heaps!!!!

i managed to configure the speakers using windows media centre, but there is no speaker fill option, nor does specifically *speaker fill* come up in a help search.
it still only plays through the front 2.
help?
thanks....
You can read a little bit
You can read a little bit about Speaker Fill here: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060907-7682.html.
To get there, go to the Windows Control Panel, and open up the Sound preferences. I believe the next step is to click on the Audio tab (I'm going on memory here), and double click on your output audio device. In the new window, click on the Enhancements tab and enable Speaker Fill.
Hope this helps,

5.1 problem
Ok heres the latest, I enabled speaker fill.
And I get an error message saying it won’t play when I try to play a song with windows media player then I get another error message that reads:
Windows detected that audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems: Speakers (realtek HD audio). Disable the drive enhancement for this device? I said yes.
Ive discovered that this option will not work because I only have 3 plugs in the back of my computer and not all 6. (as there are another 4 in the subwoofer).
So, the speaker test works so Microsoft wont help further, Logitech wont help, and The sound card maker (gigabye) is getting back to me… its not looking good
How can this be so complicated???
Thanks for your efforts.
ive managed to get foobar to
ive managed to get foobar to upmix to 4 spekers but i still have the 5th not upmixed, and also i need to use the crappy foobar interface so it isnt ideal...
