100% CPU

Hi,

I tried emailing this to support, but I kept getting a validation error after submitting the form. Here is my problem:

After I have been using the sirocco awhile, my computer grinds to a halt, and the cpu usage gets pegged at 100% (whatever process is causing this does not seem to show up under task manager). Strangely, this does not happen immediately, it is kind of random. I am confident it is the sirocco causing it though, because if I disconnect, reboot, and do not reconnect, this does not ever happen (and it never happened before installation of the sirocco.)

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop (1600Mhz Pentium M, 1.25 GB RAM). The network card is an intel pro 2915 with latest drivers. Also latest drivers and firmware on the sirocco.

Please help me out here. I love the sirocco except for this debilitating issue.

Thanks,
Richard Oberlin

Hi Richard, Yes, you'll want

Hi Richard,
Yes, you'll want to go through Cyberguys. Sorry about this.

I bought it from one of your

I bought it from one of your dealers cyberguys.com.
Do I need to deal with them on the return?

Thanks,
Richard

That definitely sounds like

That definitely sounds like a defective hardware unit, unfortunately. Did you buy it directly from us?

Thanks,
Aaron

The power outlet and

The power outlet and connector were the first things I tried. I just double checked it a minute ago, and it is not actually 100% dead. The optical output was lit up red. But the other leds were still out, and it didn't show up on network (and I plugged it in again with the ethernet and the setup program still didn't recognize it).

I hit the reset button again, and the optical output went out (and the setup program still doesn't find it).

Thanks,
Richard

Hmm, that's a new one. Could

Hmm, that's a new one. Could you try the following?
-try a new power outlet
-try re-seating the power connector into the Sirocco's power port.

Hi, I never got a chance to

Hi,

I never got a chance to try ccleaner.
When I got home today my sirocco had completely quit working.
It didn't show up on my wireless network. None of the leds light
up. If I plug it into my computer with the ethernet it doesn't show up. Pressing the reset button doesn't help.

Thanks,
Richard

I will try ccleaner. If that

I will try ccleaner. If that doesn't work I will either shell out the money for the registry mechanic or just do a fresh windows install
(my dell hardware should be pretty standard, so since no one else seems to have reported this issue I would guess that the latter would almost certainly fix the problem).

I'll let you know how it turned out after I've exhausted these options.

Thanks,
Richard

Hmm, yes I do wonder about

Hmm, yes I do wonder about residual effects from these drivers. Can you try running a program like CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com - it's free) or Registry Mechanic? Might help to dust out the cobwebs a bit.

Hope this helps,
Aaron

Hi,

Hi,

It does not seem to happen when the Sirocco is connected but no programs are playing audio (at least I left it for 10 minutes and it didn't happen.)

The Dynamic Audio Switching was already off.

I do have other audio drivers on the problem PC (and not on the working PC). There were drivers for a Linksys usb Skype-phone and a Logitech usb webcam (with a built in microphone). I uninstalled these this afternoon (with add/remove programs) and it didn't fix the problem (even after several reboots). Of course maybe they could have a residual effect. There is also the driver for the audio chip built into the laptop (Sigmatel) which I didn't uninstall.

I also tried turning off Skype and it didn't help.

Thanks,
Richard

Ok, a few questions: -does

Ok, a few questions:
-does this happen when the Sirocco is connected, but there are no programs playing audio?
-do you have Dynamic Audio Switching enabled? If so, try turning it off.
-which other audio drivers do you have installed on the PC that is causing problems?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi, cmflywav.exe is only

Hi,

cmflywav.exe is only eating up between 5% and 10%.
The biggest offender is winamp at between 30% and 50%
However all the processes don't seem to add up to the full 100%
By the way, I don't just have this problem with winamp, it seems to happen with any application using audio.

I installed the driver on the other PC and it works flawlessly there.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard, Thanks for the

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the info. Could you open the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete -> Task Manager), and see which process is eating up all of the CPU? I am guessing it would be cmflywav.exe?

Also, can you try installing the driver on your other PC and see if you observe the same phenomenon?

Thanks,
Aaron

No, I just doubled checked

No, I just doubled checked and this didn't help.
In case it is useful, here is exactly how this occurence went:
Computer was sitting idle with Sondigo control panel open (but disconnected). I then connected and opened Winamp and started playing
an mp3. The cpu meter then spiked to 100% and stayed there almost constantly (before it had been steady at less than 5%). I then closed the control panel and exited the little icon on the lower right hand corner.
The cpu stayed steady at 100% and is still that way (it has been about 15 minutes now). The music has kept playing fine, though (although the system is painfully slow now-- I am writing this with a different computer).

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard, When this

Hi Richard,
When this happens, does closing the Sirocco control panel window help to relieve the CPU usage?
