Installation

Just purchased the Inferno and installed it in my PC with no problems. However on trying to play a movie with the DIVx player,I am experiencing the BSOD with an error message Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the driver identified is cmudaxp.sys which I believe is the c-media driver for this card. I'm running Windows XP on a P4 2.6 Gz, ECS motherboard, 1Gb RAM. This happens only with some movies and at other random occasions as well.

I'm wondering if anyone has had the same experience and are there any potential solutions cos the card sounds great with my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers and I wd hate to have to RMA it.

Wd appreciate some help on this cos I really do wanna keep this card.

Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl, I've not heard of

Hi Carl,
I've not heard of this before today, but there was actually another post in the Callisto forum today about a BSOD with Xvid avi's. With these two issues popping up at the same time, I wonder if a software update to a codec could have helped cause the problem?

Also, if you're comfortable doing it, you might try experimenting with the IRQ settings in the BIOS. Different BIOSes have different levels of customization, though, so I'm not sure if that will help.

Hi Aaron, Thanks for your

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your reply. I have to correct my earlier posting, the occurence of the BSOD is not random, it only happens when I try to play certain movies, one is a divx format and the other mkv. Strangely enough several other divx avi's play perfectly. I tried logging in to a different user profile I had created and the movies played perfectly, which lead me to believe there must be some sort of software issue/incompatibility probably as you suggested with a codec. Btw I have the K-lite codec pack installed on my PC, never had any isues with it before.

I am not sure what you meant by exerimenting with IRQ setting, could you elaborate on that?

Hi, The IRQ suggestion is

Hi,
The IRQ suggestion is really a last resort kind of thing, and I would only recommend investigating it if you're familiar with that stuff.

So when you were logged in as another user, you couldn't repro the crash even when using the Callisto driver as before? If that's the case, it definitely looks like a software conflict. Is there a recently installed version of the K-lite codecs that you could roll back from?

Problem solved

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for you help, I've resolved the issues by downloading the latest version of the K-Lite codec pack.

Btw, I love the Inferno, sounds awesome with my Klipsch Promedia 2.1's

Cheers!

Problem solved

Hi there,

I had the same problem: When starting the UT2k4 game, the sound over SPDIF would be garbled, and a BSOD would appear a second later or so, saying that the faulty module was cmudaxp.sys. I tried reinstalling the sound card driver, but this didn't help. What did help, however, was downloading and installing the latest K-lite Codec Pack, which first uninstalled my old K-lite Pack, and then installed new codecs (all default options).

So apparently, it was a codec issue that caused the cmudaxp to crash.

Thanks for the tip!
