5.1 surround

Hello, I have a question about the Callisto, will it output 5.1 surround regardless if the software uses wave output or directsound output?

Example, HL2 engine, set to 5.1 surround, will it give me true surround? Not a upmixed or otherwise faked surround?

And please, try to ignore my crappy English, as its not my native language ;).

best regards

Hi sanders, The Callisto

Hi sanders,
The Callisto supports both wave and DirectSound interfaces, so whatever is passed in by the application can be output (up to 5.1). Of course, you have to use Dolby Digital live or DTS output to get 5.1 from the Callisto.

5.1 in games

I was tring to run Halflife 2 Epiode one, which has the same engine. I told Vista my speakers were 5.1, with the Callisto "Speakers" selected as deafault device in the sound control panel, not the SPDIF, and the 'test speakers' selection from the Vista control panel outputs correctly to all the speakers (when I remembered to set the Callisto control panel to digial output, Dolby Digital for my receiver, and 6 channel input, that is). The game, however, seems to be sending the center sound to the right surround speaker. Although there is a vague overall "surround" effect, the positional aspect isn't really functioning. (The suggested '8 channel' input for 3d games is not allowed as a selection by the Callisto control panel, probably because '7.1 surround' is not one of the choices in the 'Configure Speakers' dialogue from the Vista sound control panel for the Callisto's "speakers" option there.)
I guess I'm not really up on how most games communicate with sound cards for surround sound. Since this game has "5.1 surround" selected as the audio output type, how should I configure the Vista sound control panel and the Callisto's control panel to get 5.1 sound?
And P.S., what's the outlook for non-beta Vista drivers timewise?

thanks
