Hi,
I wanted to check what setting(s) I should choose to make use of Dolby Headphone in games. I guess it will depend on the game itself, but in general, do I simply choose a 5.1 speaker configuration so that the game outputs 5.1 audio and the Inferno will translate that into Dolby Headphone?
Thanks!

Hi, Just select Headphones
Hi,
Just select Headphones as the output mode, and enable Dolby Headphone. The driver will take the 5.1 game audio and convert it to a Dolby Headphone signal, so you can get all of that surround goodness through the 'phones.

Hi Aaron, Thanks for the
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the quick response. However, I still have some doubts as to how this would work.
If the game is only set to headphone output, then won't the game audio provided to the driver be unencoded 2-channel stereo? I thought the idea behind Dolby Headphone was that it takes a 5.1 source and emulates the surround experience via headphones? That's why, intuitively, it seems like I should tell the game to output 5.1, so that the driver can take that information and do whatever magic it does via Dolby Headphone to give me simulated surround sound.
Basically, what I'm looking for is this: if someone (in-game) is speaking to me from my rear-left, I want it to sound like it's coming from my rear-left.
Maybe I'm over-analyzing this too much. Truth be told, I am about as far as one can get from being an audiophile (without being deaf), and I probably couldn't tell if I got what I wanted anyways ;)
Are you using XP or
Are you using XP or Vista?
If on XP, just set the game as normal, and you should get 5.1 through DH. The driver will receive all of the 5.1 data from the game and do the conversion to Dolby Headphone.
In Vista, the only difference will be that you'll have to set 5.1 Input explicitly in the Inferno's Control Panel.
I'm using XP. By "set the
I'm using XP. By "set the game as normal," you mean set to headphone output, right? Sounds simple enough. Thanks again!
If the game allows you to
If the game allows you to specify headphones or speakers, then you'll want to choose speakers. Sorry if that was the original question, I had assumed you meant the settings in the Inferno's Control Panel!
Ah, thank you. Yes, that was
Ah, thank you. Yes, that was my original question. Re-reading my original post, I see that I didn't actually specify that I was referring to in-game settings. You certainly put it a lot more succinctly than I, so anyone else who might come across this thread will now easily understand.
Cheers!
