Device name change isn't saved

I have two Sirocco devices on my network: one for me, one for my wife. I would like create new device names for each device to avoid connecting to the wrong device.

During the setup of the Sirocco, you have the option to change the device name e.g., from "Sondigo-00120E0317C2" to "Home Theater".

After I change this name it is not retained.

My Sirocco has a wired connection to my network.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Len

You are correct- if you

You are correct- if you can't get through the setup wizard (by having a wireless network that you can join), you can't change the device name. I'll make a note of this in the wired setup instructions.

Thanks,
Aaron

Yes, I'm using the setup

Yes, I'm using the setup wizard connected directly to the Sirocco.

The problem is that I connect *wired* to my LAN. If I follow the directions on your site for connecting wired

http://www.sondigo.com/sirocco/wired

then run the configuration wizard as directed in your FAQ

http://www.sondigo.com/sirocco/faq/#ethernet

I cannot change the device name.

I guessed that perhaps your configuration code assumes that everyone will connect in a wireless manner, so that the name change portion of the code occurs during the wireless configuration.

I therefore tried configuring the Sirocco connecting wireless, with a device name change. That worked.

I then disabled the wireless and connected wired. The name change was still in effect.

(1) Ideally you'll change you're configuration code so that a device name change works even if setting up for a wired connection, (2) Minimally, you'll include a comment in your wired setup directions that makes a note of this name change limitation and suggests a workaround.

As it stands now, it appears that if I had no wireless network---and instead connected wired---I wouldn't have been able to change the device name.

Hi Len, You are using the

Hi Len,
You are using the Setup Wizard (not the web utility) to set up the Sirocco, correct? Is the Sirocco directly connected to the PC (no routers, switches, etc in between) for the setup wizard process?
