SPDIF Linux support *please*

Can you tell us if you plan on doing ANY linux support? If so, when.. if not, are your drivers open source? I'll have a look to see if I can do it myself. All I need is passthrough via optical out to my receiver - this was the whole point why I bought this thing :)

Thanks!

We don't have short term

We don't have short term plans for an official Linux driver, but the Callisto is fully USB Audio class compliant. You should be able to get optical passthrough using Linux's USB audio class driver- it works on Windows and (I believe) in OS X without a driver installation.

Passthrough

Does that mean DD/DTS/etc encodings will be passed through to the receiver as well? I'm only able to get stereo out via optical - no spdif or anything like that.

No, DD/DTS will not work

No, DD/DTS will not work with the class driver, as these features require the full-featured driver.

SPDIF refers to the optical audio link that the Callisto uses, so you are technically getting 2-channel lossless PCM audio over SPDIF. DDL and DTS are separate audio encoding formats that can also be sent over SPDIF.

Hope that helps,
Aaron

2 channel pcm

So does that mean there's no way of getting a 5.1 signal to my receiver?

Not using the Callisto on

Not using the Callisto on Linux, no.

drivers

Would you be willing to allow me to do some development for it?

Unfortunately it's not

You're definitely free to develop for the Callisto however you please, especially on Linux.

As for releasing driver code- unfortunately it's not really for us (Sondigo) to say. We are using a C-Media chipset and base driver, so if the Callisto's driver were to be (at least partially) open sourced, the decision would rest with C-Media. Hope that explains our reticence.
