Sirocco - only available when login as admin in winxp

Hello..

I just got a new sirocco a week ago.
My system is WIN-XP Pro / 4GB / AMD bx-2350
AccessPoint netgear DGFV338

Installing the Software as Admin makes no problem. The software runs and after a short time the sirocco is availabe.

My Problems:

1st
I normaly work with a restricted login under WINXP and there is seemd as if I'm riding a dead horse.

No sirocco is shown in the managment software and scanning for a sirocco device always ended helpless. The sirocco is up as connecting to the webinterface is possible.

How is the sirocco useable with normal Login under WINXP (all fixes done) ?
Disabling the virusscaner Trend Micro Pro isn't helpfull.

Is here someone who knows what to do ?

Is it possible to connect automatically to the sirocco? Badly the user must make a manual connect to hear the sound using sirocco interface.

Thanks from germany

Hi revox, Because the

Hi revox,
Because the Sirocco uses low-level networking for its audio streaming, the driver will not work on user accounts with low privileges on XP.

As for manually connecting, it's not possible with the default driver. However, there is a scripting API available (see http://www.sondigo.com/clicker), so you could set up a script to run at login that automatically connects.

If it is so then the programmers made an suboptimal work or stopped programmig in the middle.
Today everyone knows that the users should NOT work with admin rights and so the software must be made.

Interesting is that starting sirocco in admin mode and changing to normal user mode the music will not stop. So there maybee only the first connect prefer an admin mode.

Is there a workaround available?

Thanks for that info but can you even tell me what I shall do with it. Maybe point me to some examples ?
Only a short hint maybee helpless for me as I'm a nonprogrammer and nonwindowsguru.

hoping that the sondigo will be run as it should have to run

Hi, I believe the privileges

Hi,
I believe the privileges are only needed for the starting of the control panel, so if you can elevate the privileges for startup, it should work fine.

As for the scripting API, there are sample JScript scripts in the clicker download. By double-clicking the script files in Windows, you can perform certain actions, ie Connect to a Sirocco, change the buffer size, etc.

...only as admin

>I believe the privileges are only needed for the starting

I believe not.

I believed that the sirocco is well tested and runs smothless as all reviews didn't show any problem. Now it seemd that they only made an short look onto the sirocco.

So what's now?

Now I have spend 180Euro to get a nice hardware with a 'not as good as it should be' software.
In my case as it should be used by my younger daughter it is a problem with the 'only be found in admin login'.
So I must try a workaround but that's a pain. I am sitting here for 5 days and try to make a working sirocco but its disappoing.

With first using admin loging the sirocco works well even if locked out and new login as user under winxppro. But that's not what I wanted.

Looking at linksys I saw that the problem of needed admin rights is known but there maybee no willing or no knowledge howto change it.

So as a resume:

I hope that someone here maybe find a solution as nothing I found in the foren was the final help.
Tomorrow I will be at home and at monday I'll be back.

I wish you a happy weekend..

Hi Fritz, The reality is

Hi Fritz,
The reality is that the Sirocco driver needs these privileges to start under Windows XP. A default XP install makes these privileges available to each user, unless you explicitly reduce them.

It's not possible to change this behavior with a change to the drivers, unless a corresponding change was made to the operating system.

The reality is that

> The reality is that the Sirocco driver needs these privileges

I understand that but it only shows that the programmes takes the easier way and it shows that not all what Microsoft did or will do must be the right way for all.

I do some workaround but that is only the second way to go.

and with VISTA?

is there any difference using VISTA instead of XP - or in other words, is it possible to listen to music under VISTA with a login as NORMAL user (no admin privileges, no workaround)?

Thanks for a short reply from Switzerland.

I believe Vista user

I believe Vista user accounts are non-admin by default (hence the UAC debacle). If that is the case, it's usually not a problem, although some people have found that disabling UAC resolves their connectivity problems.

who is shure about it?

thank you Aron, it let's me hope.

But is there anybody, who could 100% confirm, that Sirocco works with Vista as a NON-admin-user?
