Hey Aaron
In another topic, I have been asking you about why I am having such crummy wireless communication from my XP machine to my Sondigo.
I had another idea. It would be possible (and acceptable) for me to hook that XP machine directly to the Sondigo over an ethernet cable and talk to it that way, which might solve the problem. Is this possible, or do I need to wire through the router (which would be impossible in my case)?
If it is possible, can the Sondigo continue to be available on a wireless basis to the Vista machines, which don't seem to have nearly as much of a problem with wireless communication?
Finally, is there anything I need to do to set this up properly?
Thanks.

Any kind of
Any kind of firewall/security suite software running on the XP machine? Sometimes these programs can throttle traffic and cause this kind of problem.
What the buffering setting
What the buffering setting is doesn't seem to play a different with the behavior of these "steps". It happens with buffering set to 50ms or 3000ms, or any value in between. I typically have my buffering set to 1000ms.
The intervals between the steps are not hugely consistent. I would say that they range (in rare instances) as low as 20 seconds, to more common intervals of several minutes to a couple of hours. But the weird thing is that once we step down, we never seem to be able to get back up without disconnecting and reconnecting to the bridge. This must be done, of course, when the buffer gets so low that we are getting lots of digital skipping and other weird artifacts in the playback.
Sometimes I see similar looking steps coming from my VISTA machine, but much less frequently, and when it happens, most often the VISTA machine seems to be able to reset itself (reversing the steps) without the need to disconnect and reconnect.
Hmm, how long are the
Hmm, how long are the intervals between steps? What is your buffer setting (in milliseconds)?
Seems to work fine, but buffering issue is not eliminated
Hey Aaron.
The setup when the XP is wired to the Sirocco works fine. It seems from looking at network traffic that the driver uses both connections when both are present -- most traffic from the Sirocco to the computer seems to travel wirelessly and most traffic from the computer to the Sirocco seems to travel over the cable. If I disable the wireless on the computer, traffic travels both ways over the cable.
The odd buffering behavior, however, does not seem to have stopped. To remind you (because I outlined this in a different thread) the buffer starts out at 100%, and slowly in a stepwise fashion seems to get "used up" over time, cutting back to 80%, then 70%, then 60% (all these are approximate and sample values). Eventually the stream starts getting corrupted.
Adding the wired pipe seems to help some, but it hasn't solved the problem.
Any other thoughts on this?
Thanks!
Hi Stephan, The Sirocco will
Hi Stephan,
The Sirocco will still appear as a single device in the Control Panel. If it doesn't, let me know!
IP configuration
Aaron - I would assume that the Sondigo would then have two IP addresses, one wireless and one wired. And of course it will have one name for both IP addresses. How will I tell the difference when they are listed in the control panel so I know I am connected over the wire, and not using the wireless connection?
Hi Stephan, Yep, you should
Hi Stephan,
Yep, you should just be able to plug the Sirocco into the XP machine and go. No additional setup required.
