AC3/DTS Passthrough

In my existing 5.1 soundcard, there is an AC3/DTS Passthtough option which is very annoying. If i watch a movie encoded in PCM i have to disable the passthrough and if i watch a movie encoded in AC3 i have to enable it so that my Bose receiver get 5.1 sound. This can be very annoying because i have to turn on/off the passthrough for every movie i watch. In order to overcome this issue i've just bhought a Callisto but i'm yet to receive it. After going through this forum intensely i'm kinda curious if this issue has been addressed yet and it just tickles my curiousity.

So the golden question is: Does Callisto overcome this problem ?

Hi, I'm not sure I

Hi,
I'm not sure I completely understand what your existing card does, but let me tell you what the Callisto does.

Let's say you have the Callisto's digital output mode set to Dolby Digital Live. If your movie is in PCM, the Callisto will encode it into Dolby Digital (you can use DTS Neo:6 to upmix it if you like). If the movie is encoded in AC3, the Callisto will pass it through to your receiver as 5.1 AC3.

Is that what you are looking for?

AC3/DTS

Yes Aaron,

That's exactly what i want. With the soundcard i have know i have to keep switching between PCM and AC3. If i watch a movie in PCM i have to turn off the passthrough otherwise i dont get sound. If i watch a movie in AC3 i have to turn on the passthrough. Otherwise i dont get sound because i have the media player set to SPDIF for AC3/DTS movies. The only option i have to watch both PCM and AC3 movies without having to turn on/off the passthrough for every movie is to set the output in media player to speakers instead of SPDIF and all audio will be in PCM. But then again whats the point of watching AC3/DTS movies in PCM when i have a 5.1 soundcard and a Bose Home Theater System right.

Thanks for clarifying the matter Aaron. Looks like i made the right choice by ordering the Callisto. Do you know how long it takes to get it? I ordered it with Express Shipping.
