No audio through Sirocco

P4/2.8, 2GB RAM, Win XP Pro SP2, Creative Audigy LS audio card, hard wired to Linksys WAP546, no security key. Sirocco Firmware: v1.10.0.10, Driver: Original from CD (Ver. ???)

Received Sirocco yesterday, connected it directly, installed and configed without problems, moved bridge and connected to stereo, it displayed steady green WIRELESS led.

1. Noticed installation had inserted second volume control into system tray in addition to SB Audigy control. Why two?

2. Bridge was listed in Sirocco Control Panel, and after clicking connect, it showed green check mark and buffer filled. Bridge displayed steady MUSIC led. Called up MediaMonkey, played music, displayed blinking MUSIC led on bridge, but sound was from PC speakers, nothing from Sirocco through stereo. When connected to bridge should sound still be coming from pc?

3. While playing there are extreme bursts of high-pitched noise from pc speakers at intervals of a few minutes.

All Sirocco Control Panel volume controls are at max, and an alternate source works through same receiver inputs. Nothing with headphones attached to bridge. Increased buffer to max, still have terrible high-pitched noise bursts. Considered flashing bios and updating driver, but after reading the update page I'm somewhat afraid to do that. If I did, I don't understand which driver/firmware combo to use.

Any help appreciated.

John

Hi John, Does MediaMonkey

Hi John,
Does MediaMonkey run in the background at all when it's not in use? If so, make sure you shut it down completely first (so it's not even in the taskbar). Then connect to the Sirocco, and start MediaMonkey up. You might also try a different audio program to see if it behaves differently.

No sound through Sirocco

Following your suggestions, I found that the selected Output Plugin in MediaMonkey was set for "Sound Blaster Audigy" instead of "Primary Sound Driver". Changing that allowed switching to take place but didn't deal with the noise bursts (like tearing sheet metal) when playing through my SB sound card with ANY player. I uninstalled all Creative software and drivers, updated to the latest drivers and no change. Uninstalled again and went back to drivers from the original CD (non-Vista), and the noise went away...except when I used dynamic switching it would corrupt or interfere with the SB driver, and the noise bursts reappeared. One more uninstall/reinstall to the the original SB drivers and avoiding dynamic switching has my Sirocco working great.

Thanks,
John

Hi John, Thanks for the

Hi John,
Thanks for the update. Dynamic switching may not play nice with other audio drivers when they are doing anything non-standard. The only drawback to having dynamic switching disabled is that you may have to re-start your audio player once in a while.
