Headphones surround sound

Which is the best option to choose in games for surround sound using headphones/headset?

Would I be best using the Dolby headphone option? Or am I better off choosing the 5.1 speaker setting?

I noticed when I turn on the Dolby Headphone option, everything sounds louder and clearer, but the surround sound effect isn't as much as when I leave that option off.

I mostly play the online game, Lord Of The Rings Online (LOTRO). I also use Vista x64.

Hi,
I'd recommend setting the Inferno to headphone mode, with Dolby Headphone enabled. In the game, choose 5.1 or some other surround setting. This should give you the best possible surround experience over headphones.
